Private Transportation

Private transportation (like hiring a jeep) is required to reach the trailhead and return from the endpoint. Porter Costs

The cost of porter services on the Manaslu Circuit Trek is roughly USD 20 per person per day. A single porter will generally carry up to 25 kg in total for two trekkers. • Deeper Cultural Immersion: With fewer people to move around, you’ll have easier access to local experiences and authentic interactions.
  • Less Environmental Impact: Smaller groups mean we can use more environmentally friendly forms of transport and accommodation. They’re also more sustainable in that they don’t damage the places we visit.
  • Efficient Logistics: Faster decision-making and smoother transitions during the trek.
  • Increased Flexibility: Activities can be adapted to the group’s preferences and pace.
Itinerary
Starting the Manaslu Circuit Trekking journey from Kathmandu to Machhakhola
Trekkers prepare for an exciting multi-day hiking excursion from Kathmandu to Machhakhola

The journey starts early in the morning, around 6:00 AM, with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola. The road moves along lush green hills, terraced farmlands, and picturesque villages providing a great opportunity to closely observe rural Nepalese lifestyle. You will pass through major towns like Dhading Besi and Arughat which is a busy bazaar where the eastern part of Manaslu trek begins. After Arughat, the ride gets rugged off-road, and it becomes quite an adventure. As you approach Machha Khola, there comes a view of the Budhi Gandaki River with its turquoise waterline flanked by deep gorges in between cliffs. Rainfalls and suspension bridges over the river are frequent, which are typical of any trek in the Himalayas. The rough jeep ride here offers enough dramatic photo chances. You arrive at the village of Machha Khola by late afternoon, depending on how good the road is. The few teahouses here are basic but welcoming.

Hikers trekking from Machhakhola to the charming village of Jagat
Crossing the river before heading towards Jagat village

We start after breakfast at around 7 am and begin our trek by crossing the Budhi Gandaki River. After crossing a suspension bridge, we undertake a trek through a forest path on the right side of the river. Then, we hike up on a rocky trail and reach Doban. We again traverse the suspension bridge over the Doban Khola and reach Lauri. We then climb on a high ridge before reaching the picturesque village of Jagat.

Further, the trail takes you to the Tatopani hot springs, where you can stop for a while and dip yourself in the hot geothermal water. En route, you will also come across suspension bridges and traverse through narrow ridges with the sounds of the Budhi Gandaki River roaring down below. Additionally, you will relish breathtaking views of fields and waterfalls before reaching Jagat by around 3:00 pm.

Situated on a hillside, Jagat is a small village that acts as an entrance gate to the Manaslu Conservation Area. It's dirt streets and traditional houses make it more like an old built world.

Leaving Jagat behind, you will soon trek on a beautiful trail through rhododendron forests before heading towards Salleri, where you get the first view of the white snow-capped peaks. The river Budhi Gandaki accompanies us through most of the day. The trail has many up-and-down staircases, several suspension bridges, and some beautiful Tibetan-influenced villages and Mani walls along the way. After reaching Philim village, with the largest fields of millet and spectacular views, we will be walking for another hour or so before reaching our next overnight stop at Deng about two hours later, arriving around 4:00 PM. Deng is a small village surrounded by forest with pleasant evening views.

Setting off at around 7:00 AM, the journey from Deng to Namrung will take you further into the Manaslu region. The trail starts with an easy climb through a dense forest of oak, fir and pine. You will crisscross the Budhi Gandaki many times on wooden and suspension bridges while listening to the thunderous sound of the river in the gorge. As you go higher, the path gets steeper at places but is not strenuous if one takes their time. The trail goes through beautiful villages like Bihi Phedi and Prok, where Tibetan culture starts to be distinctly noticeable in houses outlining stupas and carving mani walls on stone slabs, praying wheels decorated by prayer flags that revolve clockwise as a form of prayer for Buddhist passers-by.

Strengthen your gaze onto Siringi Himal and Ganesh Himal because they become alluring beyond imagination. You should get into Namrung by 3:00 PM in the afternoon when panorama vistas of mountains appear splendid before your eyes. It is a well-built village with picturesque Tibetan stone houses amidst terrace fields which also has good tea houses that are well-maintained for trekkers.

Exciting trek towards Lho village, surrounded by snow-capped peaks

We start early at 7.00am and continue to climb higher into the heart of the Himalayas. The trail takes us through thick forests and past several small rivers before it unexpectedly opens up revealing breathtaking views of Manaslu and other surrounding peaks. The ascent is gradual but constant, allowing for numerous stops to rest and enjoy the view along the way. We pass through Lihi and Sho villages, which are adorned with well-preserved traditional stone houses and fields of terraced lands, on our arrival in Lho by approximately 2 pm. The smiling villagers dressed in traditional Tibetan (dress) add a cultural twist to this scenic walk that is already rich with Mani walls (prayer walls) and chortens found throughout our route, all relentlessly increasing as you near the sacred valley here.

Hiking deeper into the Manaslu region and reaching Birendra Lake

Starting at 7:00 AM, the Lho to Sama Gaon hike is fairly short but lovely, with great panoramic views of Manaslu along the more alpine-like landscapes. The path initially descends a bit before continuing on a mostly level trail that winds through stands of pine and juniper; the best vista back of Manaslu will be here - spend a while. Then, you’ll ascend above the tree line as high meadows alternate with rushing streams and wonderful grazing yaks. Visit Pungyen Monastery - one of our most memorable sights featuring amazing close-ups of Manalsu. You will likely notice lots of donkey caravans today also as they transit, bringing supplies to/from Lower Valley. Samagaon is a large village. Arrive for dinner, taking the evening's awe-inspiring Himalayan panoramas throughout.

Rugged trails leading hikers from SamaGaon to Dharamsala
Trekkers advance to Dharamsala, the final stop before Larkya La Pass

The day's trek from Sama Gaon to Dharamsala starts at 7:00 AM. Much of the trail goes uphill, with a steep rise in some places along a well-marked path through alpine terrain, offering spectacular views of the peaks surrounding it. The thinning out of vegetation gives place to rocky landscapes and glacial moraines as the altitude rises. Pivotal on the way is the trail junction at Manaslu Base Camp, from where striking views of the Manaslu Glacier are seen. Further on, the path winds along the Budhi Gandaki, whose glacial waters provide a touch of blue among the rugged surroundings. The hard climb onto Dharmasala is well rewarded with the view of snow-capped peaks like Larkya Peak and Cheo Himal. You will be at Dharmasala by the middle of the afternoon, around 3:00 PM. The high-altitude rest stop has basic lodges catering to trekkers preparing for the Larkya La Pass. The evening will be spent resting and acclimatizing in preparation for crossing the pass the next day.

Trekkers advance to Dharamsala, the final stop before Larkya La Pass
A challenging but rewarding day crossing Larkya La Pass

Starting with the early hours of dawn at 4:00 AM, there is enough daylight time available for this long and heavy trek. It starts gently rising from Dharamsala en route to Larkya La Pass, the most spectacular high pass in the Himalayas. Soon after, High and icy, the trail is filled with glacial moraines and rock outcrops. Indeed, it faces all other peaks that get ablaze with golden colours: the Cheo Himal, the Himlung Himal, and the Kang Guru for a continuous brilliant view.

The final climb to this pass is steep and exhausting, but the views atop are panoramic. At an altitude of 5,106 meters, Larkya La Pass, with the prayer flags fluttering in the wind, evokes an atmosphere of spirituality. This place, being the highest point during the trek, presents the most majestic view of the surrounding giant Himalayas-one which lingers in your memory as one starts down the trek.

It goes steeply down to Bhimtang, long - steep enough to be cautious regarding the loose gravel and rock. Fully changed into the alpine lush meadows with frequent sights of yaks that come to graze in this high altitude as you further descend. You shall reach Bhimtang by late afternoon, around 4:00 PM. A quaint village, nestled amidst tall peaks with glaciated rivers, forms the perfect place for rest at the end of such a gruesome day.

The day’s trek starts at around 7:00 AM as you leave Bhimtang and head toward Tilije. As soon as you start your trek, the trail descends steadily through forests of rhododendron and pine. You will hear the sounds of birds chirping and streams flowing for most parts of the trek.  Mt. Manaslu and Lamjung Himal can be seen from open meadows in this section. Continuing, you’ll also come across Karche (2700m) before reaching Gho (2560m). Both these villages are beautiful, with traditional stone houses and terraced fields. The vegetation changes significantly on today’s trek, as will the weather; both vegetation and climate become warmer, indicating that you’re descending into lower altitudes. Around 2:00 PM, you’ll roll into Tilije, a bustling village that denotes the end of the high, arduous mountains. The teahouses here are nicer and better equipped to accommodate larger groups.

Wrapping up the incredible multi-day Manaslu hiking adventure
Last Picture With The Team Before finishing their hike at Dharapani and heading back to Kathmandu

From Dharapani, we drive by jeep to Kathmandu or Pokhara. The drive will be 8-9 hours long, taking you along the same road made while driving in, except you will take a left turn at a point in Besi Sahar instead of right like on your way up to Manaslu Circuit Trek.

In the evening, we will be at Kathmandu or Pokhara, and it is our final point of the Manaslu Circuit Trek. You will have a great adventure, splendid vistas of landscapes, and living styles of mixed cultured people, and you will be accompanied on the trail as well. Best Time of the Year for Manaslu Trekking Nepal

Manaslu Circuit Trek is one of the most beautiful trekking areas in Nepal. You can choose to do this fantastic trek during two different seasons which are Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September – November). During both these periods, Manaslu Circuit Trek‘s weather conditions are great for a trek, making it safe as well as visually breathtaking.

Spring season

In the Spring season, all the trails will be lively with blossoms, especially through the rhododendron forests, which actually turn red, pink and white with blooming rhododendrons during April & May. You’ll get magnificent views of mountain peaks from Larkya la Pass and stunning mountain views, including Mt. Manaslu.

Autumn Season

Autumn, after the monsoon clears, is also a good time to trek with beautiful clear skies for views of the Himalayan mountain ranges, golden foliage and autumnal farmland. The weather is generally settled and dry with comfortable temperatures, making it an ideal time to walk in Nepal. With dry trails and perfect weather, the walking holidays in Nepal during autumn are unforgettable. Also, this is the time when trekking groups can make the most of their visit to this region culturally; you will be passing through traditional villages all along your way.

Trekking in winter (December – February) is challenging, as there will be heavy snowfall and harsh cold conditions. The monsoon season (June – August), though, will be off-season for trekking as there will be a risk of landslides and slippery trails, but it can still be undertaken.

Safety and Satisfaction During the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Safety is the priority for any trekking journey. To make sure our trekkers have peace of mind during this thrilling adventure, we offer guided tours with well-experienced trekking guides from the local region who are not only well-trained and knowledgeable but also equipped for handling emergencies, having full knowledge about the trekking paths. Your guide will always carry the needed safety gear, such as a first-aid kit.

Altitude sickness is a major concern on this high-altitude trekking trail; hence, trekkers are recommended to acclimatize properly. In case of emergencies (for instance, severe altitude sickness), helicopter rescue options are always available to get you back either in lower altitudes or Kathmandu.

Drink plenty of water, take regular breaks as advised by your trekking guide and you’ll be perfectly safe in your mountain walking experience.

Our guided tour hikes are safety-oriented, nevertheless fulfilling mountain walking experience guaranteed. Customer satisfaction is very important to us; hence best services possible are guaranteed throughout your overnight hiking trips with us – clean tea house accommodations, freshly cooked meals, etc, provided wherever possible.

Accommodations on the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Accommodation at Manaslu Circuit Trekking Route is basically called tea houses that provide trekkers with comfortable & clean overnight accommodation and breakfast & dinner. However, do not expect much more from these tea houses on the Manaslu trek. The basic rooms usually come with twin beds (at lower altitudes) and a shared toilet (squat type). Staying at tea houses offers a chance to interact directly with local people and also learn about their culture.

While tea house accommodations are basic, they include everything you need – a warm blanket, a large meal and a hot shower sometimes. You should have no problems booking rooms during the lower seasons, but in the spring and autumn, it is often best to book rooms ahead so as to secure a space along these more popular trekking routes. In some remote parts, facilities may be limited, but that’s also the beauty of the trekking experience around the Manaslu region. The tea houses operate as comfortable stopping places for trekkers to rejuvenate their tired bodies, fill their stomachs with hygienic food, and sleep soundly after hours of trail walking. The friendly local staff and fellow trekkers make it a lifetime experience, even on the most basic facilities.

Meal Facilities on the Manalsu Circuit Hiking Trail

Meals on the Manaslu Circuit Trekking Trail are provided at the tea houses, so you won't have to worry about food supplies around. While the meals are simple, they're nutritious and filling. They provide you with the energy you need to trek multi-day through rugged and isolated terrains.

The staple food in Nepal is dal bhat (rice and lentils), a favourite among trekkers as it is high in calories and served in large portions.

Breakfast usually includes tea, porridge or eggs to start your day of trekking. For lunch and dinner, you will have a selection of noodles, pasta, momos (dumplings) and soups, amongst many other things to choose from to fill up after those intensive long-distance treks.

Tea houses also serve black tea, ginger tea and coffee. The food options are fine, but it is suggested to carry some snacks like energy bars for quick bites in between mountain walks. The accommodations and meals might differ a bit depending on the altitude and remoteness, but you will be provided with good quality food during your entire guided tour.

Travel Insurance for the Manaslu Circuit Trekking

Travel insurance is a must for anyone considering taking on the Manaslu Circuit Trek. Since this multi-day hike is quite challenging, you’ll want to secure good travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking, emergency medical and helicopter evacuation coverage. The Himalayas are unpredictable; in the mountains, you’d never know what may happen; it could be altitude sickness, injury or weather accident. It’s always best to be safe than sorry, and coverage will also give you peace of mind as you embark on an epic adventure.

Comprehensive travel insurance with helicopter rescue coverage above 5000 meters is required for a Manaslu Circuit trek. Similarly, make sure that your travel insurance covers Trip Cancellation & Interruption, Lost Baggage & Delay and Trip Delay. You may also want to bring proof of insurance papers.

Difficulty of the Rapid Manaslu Circuit Trekking

The Rapid Manaslu Circuit Trek is an adventure trekking expedition that combines the traditional trek in a shorter yet strenuous 10-day itinerary. It is designed only for fit and experienced trekkers who are also used to long-distance day hikes or high-altitude treks. There are some days with longer hours of walking because of the technicality of the trails and altitude pass-crossing, as well as steep ascending and descending terrains on rocky paths along the entire route. Physically, it is challenging. However, mountain walking rewards you with up-close views of the Mt. Manaslu range, spectacular glaciers, fortified villages and beautiful landscapes. This adventure package best suits those energetic individuals who can tackle consecutive challenges.

How Should Active Trekkers Prepare for the Rapid Manaslu Circuit Trekking to complete in 10 Days?

To prepare for the Rapid Manaslu Circuit Trek, you need to start a physical training routine and select the right gear to equip yourself for this adventurous journey. As it is a fast-paced trek with long walking days, therefore, active trekkers should commence fitness training at least a few months prior to their departure.

  • Focus on building your cardio by running, cycling or swimming, and if possible, include some strength training as well since you will be carrying a backpack and ascending/descending on steep terrains.
  • It would also be beneficial if you could do a couple of high-altitude treks before this trip.
  • Acclimatization plays an important role in gaining elevation, so try not to miss being out in the mountains before this trip.
  • Proper gear, which includes good hiking shoes, warm layers of clothes, walking poles and a comfortable backpack, is mandatory as it involves walking through rough terrains all along the trek.
  • Pack light but essential items, as after the walk has started, we won’t have enough time for readjustment.
  • Mental preparation is equally important because sometimes using an itinerary might look daunting, so familiarize yourself with the trail map and challenging days, especially crossing over Larkya La Pass.

Electricity and Charging Facilities

All the tea houses in the whole circuit of the Trek have electricity, but as you move higher, they are limited and costly. The lower regions get their electricity from the local grid. The upper regions are powered by solar- which is heavily dependent on weather conditions. You will always need to bring your own power bank or solar charger for any device that you wish to charge because every use has a cost of about $2-$5 approx peruse.

Hot Showers

Hot showers are available at tea houses during the Manaslu Circuit Trek, but they’re a luxury, especially in higher altitudes. In lower regions, hot water is provided using gas/solar heating, and in high elevations, boiled hot water in a bucket will be provided for the shower. Trekkers have to pay around USD 2-5 per shower if they wish to take a shower each day. At extreme altitudes (above 4500m), hot shower facilities aren’t available, and wet wipes would be useful.

What To Pack For Your Short and Rapid Manaslu Trekking?

Packing right for the Manaslu Circuit Rapid Trek is essential to ensure your journey is safe and comfortable. Given below are the list of things that you will essentially require:

Clothes and Gears

  • Thermal layers, jackets that are waterproof AND windproof and then down jackets for subzero temperatures. Lightweight trekking pants and shorts. Plus, fleece if you really feel the cold.
  • Hiking shoes or boots that are in good condition and able to handle rough terrain.
  • Durable trekking boots (worn-in), thermal and hiking socks, and gaiters for snow or rain.
  • Sleeping bag rated to the lowest temperature you will encounter (or possibly a lighter summer bag if it’s really hot).

Accessories:

  • Refillable water bottles, headlamps, dry bags and personal little toiletries.
  • A first-aid kit that includes medication for altitude sickness.
  • Trek permits, passport copies and travel insurance that covers high-altitude evacuation.
  • Trail mix and water tablets.
FAQs

The rapid version condenses the trek into 10 days by reducing acclimatization days and walking at a steady pace. This is suitable for high altitude experienced trekkers with a good level of fitness to walk long hours.

The highest point is Larkya La Pass, at 5,160 meters (16,930 feet), where you'll be rewarded with incredible panoramic views. It's a challenging pass to cross, and proper acclimatization and preparation are important.

On the rapid trekking, trekkers cover 15-20 kilometres daily, depending on the itinerary. The terrain varies, from easy paths to steep ascents and descents.

Yes, as it is a restricted area, hence requires a local licensed guide to stay safe and navigate. They also help in getting permits done and know about the place better.

The meals that will be provided on the trek are of local kinds, which include Nepalese meals like dal bhat, noodles, soups and so on. Will be readily available, and meat is not recommended to eat in remote areas.

Helicopter evacuation is available for emergencies, but only if you have altitude insurance. Also, your guide will carry a first aid kit with standard medicines.

What sets the Manaslu region trek apart is its remoteness, with fewer trekkers and well-preserved cultural heritage. The trek provides great solitude, diverse scenery and interaction with Nubri and Tsum ethnic groups of people.

While the 10-day trek is a rapid trekking option, you can also choose to go with a longer itinerary if you would like more days to acclimatize.

The group size for the Rapid Manaslu Circuit Trek is pretty small. It can be anywhere from 2 – 8pax. This makes sure that you get personalized attention and also we can take care of you properly in terms of logistics while trekking.
